Keynote - How to Build a Learning Organization for Long-term Success
Dr. Hinojosa’s career in public education, from teacher and coach to superintendent/CEO, spans more than four decades. Guided by the firm belief that education and not environment is key to a student’s success, he has led several school districts to improve student achievement.

“The only way to control the future is to create it.” In this keynote, Dr. Hinojosa will show you how to build for the future by focusing and delivering on stakeholder needs. Learn how strategic thinking, rather than strategic planning, creates an appetite for innovation and discover a process to implement bold and courageous improvements in your school or district.

Display Size Matters!  Bigger Brighter Projectors are just as resilient as panels. There is a lot of confusion about “Laser vs Lamp”. Beyond the Flyer: Actionable Ways to Grow your High School CS Program
Computer Science teachers everywhere have an awesome opportunity to work towards growing their CS program. Research tells us that the earlier students take a Computer Science course, the more likely they are to pursue CS after high school. This statistic is even more amplified for girls and underrepresented groups, which means that every CS teacher has the ability to support the movement towards increased diversity in CS Education.

You may have a ton on your plate, but hanging up flyers telling students to take CS isn’t going to cut it; it’s passive, and likely attracts students who know they’re interested. Instead, try active recruiting strategies that are easy to implement, effective, and help to reach students who may not know CS is an option for them… and may not even know your course exists!

In this session, you'll build your own toolkit of active recruiting strategies that are easy to implement, effective, and help you expand your reach. With the right tools, you'll be on your way to growing a CS program in your school with all students represented. Plus, it's more fun - and more effective - than the flyer.

Three Keys to a 40-Hour Teacher Workweek
If the 2021-2022 school year taught us anything, it's that teachers need their time back. Following this session, teachers will leave with a plan to increase their efficiency without compromising their effectiveness as an educator.

Losing Students? How to win K-12 Market Share with Service and Integrity
Dr. Hinojosa’s career in public education, from teacher and coach to superintendent/CEO, spans more than four decades. Guided by the firm belief that education and not environment is key to a student’s success, he has led several school districts to improve student achievement.

To date, the Dallas Independent School District has implemented more than 50 schools using principles of design thinking created by Stanford University. In this session, Dr. Hinojosa will share how public school choice version 1.0 through 8.0 helped DISD bring innovation and market share to individual campuses, including start-up and neighborhood schools — aided, in part, by a 13-year customer service effort modeled after Scandinavian Airlines.

The Student-Led Classroom Toolkit
All children deserve learning experiences focused on solving real world, authentic problems, allowing them to practice collaboration, communication, and creativity. In a world where more tasks and jobs are becoming automated, empowering our students to be collaborative problem solvers, creative innovators, and reflective, lifelong learners makes them indispensable.

Imagine: a classroom of 30 students, each working on their own, individual (or sometimes paired) project for a real world client. Both inspiring and daunting, right? While “21st century learning” is a popular ideal in today’s education conversation, few tools exist to help teachers facilitate authentic, meaningful learning on a full class scale.

In this session, participants will learn tangible tools and strategies to help transform their classrooms into places where students do work that matters to THEM right now. Through classroom management methods that empower student coaching and collaboration, assessment tools that amplify and inspire creativity, tips for building student tenacity, and strategies to manage 100+ unique projects all at once without losing your mind, teachers will leave this session ready to transform their classroom from student-centered to student-led.

PLAY: Immersive Experiences to Bring Ethical CS Conversations to Life
How are you teaching Impacts of Computing? Looking for a new way to approach these standards that isn’t your typical Digital Citizenship lesson? What if you could give students the opportunity to experience ethical CS issues, giving them the ability to have rich conversations and deeply engage with these CSTA Standards?

Through immersive experiences, learning is taken to the next level. Rather than learning from a textbook (or a computer), students are thrown headfirst into another life, truly walking in another’s shoes. Computer Science teachers take on the role of content mixologist, giving meaning and context to learning in other classes and providing students with both schema and a safe space to have challenging conversations about the ethics of information and technology.

In this session, we’ll explore two immersive experiences intended for use with middle and high school students. The first transports students to World War II England as they race the clock to break Enigma, exploring the ethics of information. In the second experience, students experience different level of internet access experienced in countries around the world. Then, they discuss the ethics of access and censorship, drawing on both their own experience and their research.

Canvaholic
Hi, my name is Kelly Kenny, and I am a Canvaholic. Truly. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s website, “-aholic” means one who likes (something) to excess. There are chocoholics, workaholics, shopaholics, bookaholics, and the list goes on. While all of those perfectly describe me, Canvaholic might be the best fit. I like it, A LOT. I mean, I probably use it on the daily. Whether it's for worksheets, flyers, research organizers, library signage, posters, or heck, even birthday party invitations for my two-year-old, Canva’s had my back. In this quick session I’ll share some tips and tricks I’ve learned on my six year journey to becoming a Canvaholic. (Yes, if you did the math, that’s right, I’ve been Canva obsessed since 2016).

In this interactive session, you'll learn about a new formative assessment strategy & how to implement it in almost any curriculum. We'll try out three formative assessment activities & brainstorm how to apply them in your classroom. In the process, you'll learn how to empower students to provide accurate peer feedback that can improve learning, increase engagement, develop important SEL skills, and amplify your ability to respond to student learning in the moment. The session will be presented by Adam Sparks, a Nebraska educator and one of the creators of Short Answer. Short Answer is being built in a small farmhouse south of Louisville, NE, so we're very excited to be presenting at NETA!
